Open from 1st February to 30th November.
10am to dusk daily (last admission 6.00pm)
The mission of Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park is: ‘To establish a conservation breeding centre for small animals, to conserve wildlife, wildlife habitats and sites of geological importance, to provide opportunities for the public to enjoy and learn about the area they live in.’
There is a constant programme of construction and improvement to facilities for the animals, birds and visitors. Click here to see what facilities the park has to offer. Due to the very nature of the park and land it is situated in, not all paths are wheelchair accessible – especially the woodland walk. As some of our animals are free to roam the park area, dogs and pets are not allowed.
An essential role of the park is the conservation of threatened species. Through it’s captive breeding programmes, it plays an important part in the international effort to conserve rare and endangered species. By buying a ticket to visit us we can do so much more so……

Galloway Kite Trail

Description The Galloway Red Kite Trail, an exciting nature watching opportunity to view spectacular red kites in lovely scenery is now attracting the attention of walkers, cyclists, wildlife lovers and birdwatchers in Dumfries and Galloway and from much further afield. The 'Galloway Kite Trail' around beautiful Loch Ken promotes the population of kites, recently re-established in Kirkcudbrightshire, as a source of nature-based tourism to benefit local communities in the area. In so doing, the trail is helping to strengthen the 'ownership' of the kites by local communities and tourist operators.
The trail is an anticlockwise route of some twenty four miles around Loch Ken (winter) with an additional fourteen miles of forest drive (summer only). You can collect a trail guide leaflet at business outlets on the trail or download the leaflet here Being out on a bike is a great way to spot red kites and for the energetic, it’s a reasonably level route, with cycle racks provided at Boat O Rhone, New Galloway and Mossdale. The west side of Loch Ken is particularly quiet and attractive for cyclists.

We offer a wide range of equestrian services for all ability ranges, from age 5 upwards. Lochhill is fully licensed and insured and is approved by the British Horse Society.
For those interested in learning to ride, or improving skills, we offer riding lessons either on a one to one basis or within a group setting. Our friendly, qualified staff will carry out an initial assessment of riding ability before recommending the best lesson plan for you. Sorry no children under 5 years of age are permitted to ride. We have a large, floodlit outdoor arena enabling us to provide lessons through the darker winter months, and a smaller indoor school for those days when the weather really is against us.
If you are interested in trekking our fully qualified and experienced staff can lead you on some super off-road trails through the beautiful countryside, some through forestry and some through open farmland. We have a wide variety of horses and ponies to suit all levels of riding experience and ability and are able to tailor our treks/hacks to meet individual needs.
If you are looking for a new home for your horse/pony, we can offer large, spacious American Barn style boxes in our livery yard with excellent grazing and off-road hacking facilities and access to our floodlit outdoor arena.
We offer a loan-a-pony scheme for those pony-mad children to enjoy a one-off morning or afternoon session covering all aspects of caring for ponies, including mucking out, cleaning tack and grooming as well as having a riding lesson and/or a trek. We also offer a longer term loan scheme which is a wonderful stepping-stone before purchasing your own horse/pony.

Sulwath Brewers

Description Come and meet the brewer, learn the secrets of preparing traditionally crafted ales, and see for yourself the care and skill that goes into making a fine hand brewed Scottish pint using 100% natural ingredients
Welcome to Sulwath Brewers Ltd
Do you have a demanding clientele who insist on prompt and courteous service and a product that is unique or exceptional? Both your own and our aims at Sulwath are probably similar in respect. Our real ales are hand crafted with the local palate in mind, and to exacting standards.
We take great pride in the production of our products which are brewed traditionally, with no concentrates, colourings or extract and with accent on the taste of yesteryear.
When was the last time you savoured the aroma of a mass produced beer, or tasted its wholesome natural flavour?
The name "Sulwath" is the ancient name for the Solway Estuary. This is reputed to date back to a ford, or crossing near the mouth of the river Esk which marked the border between Scotland and England around the 13th Century, and from general usage, the estuary became known as "Sulwath" with the predominance of migratory seabirds in the upper reaches of the Solway.
Principally Geese from the Arctic Circle who "Winter" with us at Caerlaverock, this has become an internationally known Wildfowl Reserve.
According to local custom, it is said that the first sign of approaching springtime is when these birds gather in flights of many thousands and fly northwards to their summer homelands...
The Caerlaverock region is dominated by a granite based mountain called "Criffel" hence the logo of two flying geese against its background.
Come & meet the brewer on our conducted tour every Monday & Friday at 1pm
