Dumfries and Galloway
Gracefield Arts Centre |
Welcome to Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival. Our 9-day festival
has taken place annually at the end of May since 1979. The
founding aim was to bring international performers of the
highest quality to a region containing many scattered rural
communities that would not otherwise have the opportunity to
experience such talent. Since then, this region has produced some of its own talent of international standing and we’re proud to be able to present these artistes from time to time. We offer a wide range of events: music – including classical, jazz and folk, dance, theatre, literary, children’s events, plus the visual arts and films. The growing number of children’s events in recent years plus a revitalised literary programme added to our strong music, dance and theatre tradition has, we believe, enhanced the programme we offer |

Angela Lawrence paints in watercolour and oil images expressive of the natural landscape or the elements that the landscape contains. In this large portfolio there are paintings ranging from a representational style, in the landscape section of the “view paintings” link, to the glimpses and impressions of landscape in the semi-abstract landscape section, and also abstract work inspired by that which makes up the landscape around us: rock, water, organic materials and colour. |

Hazel Campbell has lived and worked in Galloway for most of her adult life, and
through attendance at painting classes over a number of years she has developed
her own vigorous style of painting. She has a loose, bold approach, working
mainly in oil and gouache, using local Galloway countryside as a stimulus for
landscape painting. Still life and flowers are also subjects, and like the
landscapes, are being treated in an increasingly broad manner. Hazel runs painting schools during the summer from her studio on the family farm. These are proving to be very popular, with her students having scope to paint in the adjoining garden and surrounding countryside. |
