When Mrs Irving first started baking biscuits,
in her kitchen at home, to sell in the family farm shop, nobody could
envisage how her traditional farmhouse style biscuits, tray bakes and
cakes would take off and become so popular. After selling them in the farm shop for a year, and seeing peoples desire for them increase, the decision was taken to concentrate on baking and so in November 1988 Irvings Bakery was born, and Mr and Mrs Irving started work, on their own, in a small unit in Castle Douglas. By March the following year they had taken on their first employees and from there the bakery grew gradually by supplying shops in the local area and selling direct from the bakery. In November 1991 their son Keith joined them and in April 1992 they moved, albeit just across the road, to bigger premises from where we continue to bake our delicious goods to this day |

We aim to be Castle Douglas's first one stop
shop for a wide range of foods produced in Dumfries and Galloway and
other areas of Scotland. We sell some of the most amazing produce this

The farm has a mixture of 350 Black Face Ewes
and Scotch Mules which are grazed with the Beef Suckler herd split between
the farm's two bulls, an excellent Limousin stock bull
and a younger pedigree Simmental bull which has enabled a small
pedigree Simmental herd to be established during 2010. In addition to the sheep and cattle, we rear pigs outdoors. The pigs are Large White Landrace crosses sourced from Ian Stewart of Kilpatrick Farm , Pinwhirry. The majority of the pigs are currently bought by Jimmy Craig of Ballard Butchers, for his shop in Castle Douglas. Cullinaw is building an excellent reputation for the supply of high quality meat to individuals , catering businesses and restaurants in the West of Scotland, who are increasingly wanting to know the provenance of the meat they are buying. They are also wanting to know that the animals have been well looked after and treated with care and respect. |
